This course prepares you for the Hazardous Materials (H) endorsement knowledge test. It is for a driver who will haul hazardous materials in an amount that needs placards. The H endorsement also needs a federal security threat assessment (TSA fingerprinting and background check) and Entry-Level Driver Training in hazardous materials before it is issued.
Alabama gives the test at its own driver licensing office, and sets its own fees and required documents, so confirm those with the state before you go.
This course drills 180 questions. Every one is written from 49 CFR Parts 172, 173, 177, 383, 390, 392, 393 and 397 — the federal rules that apply in every state — and names the section that proves its answer. A state may add rules of its own on top of the federal minimum.

Is there an official test, and how is the mock test scored?
80 percent is the federal pass mark for every CDL knowledge test (49 CFR 383.135). No federal rule sets the question count: 49 CFR 383.133 sends the states to AAMVA's test system, which is not public. The count here is the one used by the states that publish theirs -- Michigan's CDL manual and Ohio Administrative Code 4501:1-1-08 -- so your state may differ. 30 questions, 24 correct to pass.
