This course is for anyone who prepares for the FAA mechanic certificate with an airframe or powerplant rating (the A&P) under 14 CFR 65 subpart D, whether from a part 147 school, from 18 or 30 months of practical experience, or from military service. It covers the General test (AMG). You take it first: the FAA requires the General knowledge test before the Airframe or Powerplant test.
The mock test is the real format: 60 questions, 42 to pass (70 percent, which 14 CFR 65.17 sets), with up to two hours at a testing center. The FAA writes every question from a knowledge element of the Aviation Mechanic ACS (FAA-S-ACS-1), so this course has one section for each ACS subject. Since April 2026 some FAA questions show a figure; the questions here are text only.
You take the knowledge test at an FAA-approved testing center, after an authorized instructor, your part 147 school or an FAA inspector signs you off as eligible. Then you take the oral and practical test with a Designated Mechanic Examiner.
