About This Test

This course is for anyone who prepares for a U.S. Coast Guard captain's license (OUPV / six-pack, or Master). Aids to navigation are part of the Navigation General module of the license exam: buoys, beacons, colors, shapes, numbers, light rhythms, the Intracoastal Waterway and the Western Rivers.

Aids to navigation are not a module of the license exam. The National Maritime Center puts them inside Navigation General (Q171 for OUPV Near Coastal, Q162 for Master under 100 GRT), which is 50 questions passed at 70 percent, 35 correct, in 3.5 hours, and covers much more than this. The test here is a topic drill of ours: 30 questions, 21 to pass.

You take the real exam at a Coast Guard Regional Exam Center or through an approved course.

This course drills 122 questions.
