About This Test
This course is written only from free U.S. Government publications. It is not taken from, endorsed by or connected with any private certifying organization, and it is not that organization’s test. It is for general study: it may or may not match what a private course or its test asks. It does not replace hands-on training, and it does not certify you.
This course is for people who are training for, or preparing to start, an entry-level open-water SCUBA certification, and for certified divers who want to review the theory. It covers diving physics, diving physiology and diving disorders, SCUBA equipment, dive planning and procedures, emergencies and rescue, and the underwater environment and its hazards. The questions test the principles that a recreational diver needs. They do not test U.S. Navy decompression tables, surface-supplied diving or other procedures that apply only to Navy or government divers.
You cannot get a SCUBA certification from a written test alone. To become a certified diver, you must complete a hands-on course with a certifying organization: classroom or online theory, confined-water (pool) skills and supervised open-water dives with a qualified instructor. A certifying organization also checks that you are medically fit to dive. This course is study support only. It does not certify you, and it does not replace training with an instructor.

Is there an official test, and how is the mock test scored?
No government or certifying body publishes a test for this course, so the mock test here is ours: 50 questions, 40 to pass (80 percent). 50 questions, 40 correct: practice target.
How are the questions checked?
Every question is checked before it goes live, and again each time the site is updated.
Does this course certify me?
You cannot get a SCUBA certification from a written test alone.
